My name is Stephen Buff. I'm running for Elon Alderman in the local election on November 3, and I would appreciate your vote. That being said, let me tell you a little about myself, hopefully to convince you that I deserve that vote and that you would be making a good choice!
All these degrees were earned a long time ago. A friend of mine, who is now a judge, once told me that his basis in math gave him the logical framework for getting into law. I'd like to think that I take a logical approach to problem solving.
I worked for Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Technologies for more than 28 years and retired from Lucent in December 1996. For the last 10 years of my career I worked for IBM, retiring in 2006.
During my career, my responsibilities were focused in the area of Information Technology. I spent the last 16 years in management and project management positions. I am sharing these details with you so that you will recognize that I'm comfortable working with and guiding large projects. I understand the steps necessary to get things done.
I enjoy playing tennis and golf and since retiring, I've also taken up woodworking. Although I can't say that I'm especially good at any of these pursuits, I do think they require qualities that you might consider positive when electing an Alderman -- each requires focus, determination and an understanding of the result you are attempting to accomplish.
My wife Linda and I have lived in Elon for the past 18 years (and in the area for the last 33 years). I think Elon is a great place to live. I want to keep it that way! Having been retired since July 2006, I not only have an interest in Elon's future, but now I also have the time to give back to Elon as one of its Aldermen.
If you have any questions regarding my candidacy or issues related to Elon that I can address, please let me know.
